A Communiqué From GTAJ HQ

This blog started in January and from the outset my intention was to commit to it for 12 months ... oh oh, that sounds ominous!

It had to stop one day, and I like the neat and simple symmetry of completely encapsulating a year of O&A shows. It looks tidier.

The last few shows of 2012 will be posted as usual ... go out at the top.

This posting had been scheduled for months, but with Ted's recent announcement it certainly adds a little more edge to proceedings.
Either way, with the field cleared, there should now be a surplus of motivation to new players that have considered entering the game. The holidays provide a few weeks of transition to allow volunteers to ready themselves and get set-up. Links can be posted here.

The blog will remain online as a full archive of the year. Cheers.

Fixing Comments

Quick bit of business. As predicted, the comments have continued their tedious and inexorable slide into Wackbag whining territory and show zero indication of improving. So here comes the new rules:

There are broadly three classes of comment, sorted by volume,

• People complaining about who on the show they "hate". Standing on a box to yell at us about how much the show has upset them. As if anyone gives a fuck. This is of course entirely pointless, and annoying, and is not required.
• People saying thanks, this is nice, but entirely unnecessary. So while not annoying, they are also not required.
• The third type is people pointing out any site issues, link problems, suggesting shows to be grabbed, linking to items of general O&A interest, other resources, podcasts, or making interesting points in an entertaining or an informative manner.

Comment moderation is being switched on soon, and only comments of this third type will make it past moderation.

Use the comments to tell me if I am wrong, or for a fuller discussion of the problem. However the status quo is likely not an option.

Global Pests - Part II

Unique ip addresses that visited blog for one random day last week. Location data is best effort. 'Untraced' addresses are not plotted.

Map is just for fun, accurate geolocation is tricky, especially wireless ... but it sort of looks right, no major surprises, and a nice diversity. Finland and Norway look low, Blogger reports them a little higher.

Site is doing, on average, around 5000 downloads per show. Cheers.

Based on a comment yesterday, here is a rough summary of where Opie And Anthony fans are visiting from.
The site averages just over 1100 downloads per show per day. When posted, the Shit Show does about 300-400, poor Sam.

Hulkshare doesn't report countries, so I used this week's pageview stats from Blogger. Pageviews aren't as reliable, but are good enough for a quick sketch. Finland, Czech Republic, Russia, Latvia and Poland are hovering near the Top 10, and sometimes appear.

... it definitely helps makes the daily routine worthwhile knowing that the show is being downloaded, so thanks to everyone for visiting.
